Third-year Liberty Swimming Head Coach Jake Shellenberger and assistant coach Jessica Barnes lead the Lady Flames as they prepare for the 2012-13 season.
The Flames Sports Network's Nick Pierce recently caught up with Liberty Swimming Head Coach Jake Shellenberger to preview the Lady Flames' 2012-13 swimming schedule. Last season, the Lady Flames made big improvements over their inaugural season. In 2011, Liberty finished in sixth place with 267 points at the CCSA Championships, while the Lady Flames earned second place with 538.5 points at the 2012 CCSA Championships. Liberty went 12-2 during the 2011-12 regular season, including 9-1 against conference opponents. Brye Ravettine, the 2012 CCSA Women's Swimmer of the Meet and Swimmer of the Year, became Liberty's first swimming All-American when she placed 13th at the 2012 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming and Diving Championships. Ravettine is also one of three current Lady Flames, along with freshmen Laura Day and Jess Reinhardt, to earn Olympic Trials experience in 2012. The Liberty swimming team opens its third season of intercollegiate competition on Saturday, when the Lady Flames take on Campbell at 3 p.m. in Buies Creek, N.C.
