A Look at Liberty
Liberty used a strong defensive effort to defeat Campbell, 1-0, Friday evening on the East Campus Fields. It was the second shutout of the season for the Flames (3-6) and the first time that the Camels had been blanked this season.
Three players each have scored two goals to lead the Flames. Forward Kyle Breitmeyer netted his second goal for the year, Friday night against Campbell. He has also added an assist to pace Liberty with five points. Defenders and team captains Sam Duininck and Greg White have also each scored two goals. Joining that trio are midfielder Juan Niño and defender Uriah Bentick who have scored one goal apiece.
Freshman midfielder Tim Harbison has assisted on three of the Flames' markers to lead the squad.
Goalkeepers Scott Sutarik started and played the full 90 minutes in each of the past four games. Friday night, the sophomore made a career-high eight saves and notched his second shutout of the season.  He enters Tuesday night's contest with a 1.61 goals-against average over 558 minutes of play.
Head Coach Jeff Alder has led the Flames to a 111-85-19 record during his 12 seasons, capturing his 100th victory in a 2-0 win at No. 10 Virginia last season. Alder's Flames posted an 11-6-3 record in 2011, en route to their second Big South Conference crown and fifth consecutive season with a double-digit win total.

All-Time Against American
Tuesday's match-up will be the third meeting between Liberty and American on the soccer pitch. Before last season, the two teams had only met once before in 2000.  The two teams have split their previous two meetings.
Last year, Liberty defeated American in double overtime, 2-1, in Washington, D.C. on Sept. 9.

Billy Knutsen has started all 11 games between the posts for the Eagles. The junior goalkeeper has posted 1.08 goals-against average and recorded three shutouts.
