Morgan Becker and the Lady Flames will aim to conclude the 2012 regular season with a win at Longwood.
In a battle for fifth place in the National Lacrosse Conference standings, Liberty and Longwood will square off in Farmville, Va., Friday at 7 p.m. in both teams' regular-season finale. The Lancers will be celebrating Senior Day.
Both teams share a number of similarities, including their most recent 0-2 trips to the Tar Heel State, where they faced conference foes High Point and Davidson.
Liberty began the weekend with a 22-7 loss to the conference-leading Panthers last Friday, before falling to the homestanding Wildcats, 18-11, on Sunday. Both teams used large runs to separate from the Lady Flames. High Point reeled off eight consecutive goals at one point, while Davidson converted six straight goals in a run which covered both halves.
Conversely, the Lancers fell to the Wildcats on Friday by an 18-13 margin, before closing the trip with a loss at High Point, 19-9. After facing a 9-5 halftime deficit against High Point, the Lancers fell behind as the Panthers used a pair of four-goal runs in the second half en route to the victory.
For the season, Liberty stands at 3-11, while Longwood is 2-12. However, Longwood owns a victory over Cincinnati (17-11), while the Lady Flames fell to the Bearcats (13-8) on the same weekend in early March.
Freshman Kacie Fogle has come on strong lately for the Lady Flames, especially in the draw circle. After setting a single-game program record with nine draw controls against Presbyterian College, Fogle snagged seven last weekend and now leads the team with 33 for the season. The attacker has also turned on the offense, including recording a career-high four goals against Davidson. She is now one of seven Lady Flames with double-digit goals on the year.
The Lancers are led by Jamie Brentlinger, with the junior midfielder converting 30 goals this spring. Jessica Rudloff is slightly off her teammate's pace, finding the back of the net 26 times this season. Three other Lancers have double-digit goal totals.
Hannah Riggs serves as the defensive specialist for Longwood. The senior has scooped up 50 ground balls this season and has a team-high 18 caused turnovers.
Mollie Zimmerman has started in goal for all 14 of the Lancers' games. Zimmerman owns a goals-against average of 17.79, and a save percentage of .380.
Longwood came out victorious in last year's matchup, taking the 18-10 victory at Liberty's Osborne Stadium.
Following the season finale, both programs will prepare for the NLC Tournament, which takes place May 4-6. Davidson serves as the host school for the second straight season.
