Liberty's men's relay squads excelled Saturday at the Raleigh Relays. The Flames posted solid times and top 10 finishes in the 4 x 100, 4 x 200, 4 x 400 and 4 x 800 relays at Paul Derr Track, highlighting Liberty's performances on the meet's final day.

Men's Meet Recap
On Friday at the Texas Relays, the Liberty men's 4 x 100 relay squad posted a sterling time of 40.71 seconds. Not to be outdone by their teammates in the Longhorn State, Maxwell Asante, Lachaddrick Ellis, ConRoy Smith and Kyle Gill teamed up for a sixth-place 4 x 100 relay finish on Saturday at the Raleigh Relays. Their time of 41.43 seconds was well under the IC4A standard of 42.50.

The same four runners went on to record one of the fastest 4 x 200 relay times in program history, 1:25.80. Ellis anchored the squad home to a third-place finish and the Flames' fastest 4 x 200 effort since the 2001 Penn Relays. Asante, Gill, Smith and Ellis now rank No. 5 on Liberty's all-time 4 x 200 relay performance list.

Moving on to the 4 x 400 relay, Ellis, Gill, Asante and Paul Arslain produced a season-best time of 3:13.76 for fourth place in the event. It was the fastest time in the Big South this season, and the fastest clocking by a Liberty squad since the 2007 IC4A Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

John Sherret, Jacob Onifer, Andrew Rigler and Jarred Cornfield combined for a time of 7:50.78 in the 4 x 800 relay, finishing 10th.

Freshman Steve Feister notched the Flames' top individual finish on Saturday, throwing the javelin 193-4 for seventh place. Taylor Courtney posted a season-best time of 53.55 seconds while coming in 13th in the 400-meter hurdles.

Women's Meet Recap
The Lady Flames had two freshman triple jumpers sail past 36 feet on Saturday. Melissa Rohwer landed at 36-11 for 13th place in Section I. Meanwhile, Bari Minter jumped 36-1.5, claiming sixth place in Section II of the event.

In the throws, Jocelyn Williams produced a 14th-place finish in the women's hammer, thanks to a throw of 158-2. Christina Mitchell's top javelin throw landed at 115-7, which was good for 15th place in the competition.

Liberty will now prepare for its first home meet of the 2012 outdoor season. The Liberty Collegiate Invitational will take place Friday and Saturday at the Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex. Friday's action will begin at 1 p.m., with the decathlon 100-meter dash and women's hammer. The women's pole vault will get things going Saturday morning, with a 9:30 a.m. start time.
