Becker leads Liberty in draw controls (22) and shot percentage (.769), and ranks second in goals (20) and points (26).
Redshirt freshman Morgan Becker has been selected as the National Lacrosse Conference's (NLC) Newcomer of the Week for games played during the span of March 19-25. The conference's weekly honors were announced last evening, and Liberty received its third representative in as many weeks. Becker's honor comes after goalkeeper Kristen Masullo and defender Chloe McIntosh each received consecutive defensive player of the week honors.
Becker scored a career-high six goals in the Lady Flames' overtime loss to Bucknell last week. The attacker converted all six of her shots on the evening, while also chipping in an assist on a Kristin Crowley goal. The Round Hill, Va., native also snagged four draw controls in the game, in addition to picking up one ground ball.
After missing last season, Becker has come to be a top offensive contributor for the Lady Flames. She currently ranks second on the team in goals (20) and points (26). Her scoring has been an efficient effort, as she has notched goals on 20 of her 26 shots, for a team-leading shot percentage of .769. Becker also leads the team in draw controls, pulling in 22 on the season. Sixteen of those came in back-to-back games, where she posted a program-record eight draw controls against both Long Island and Wagner.
The NLC's Newcomer of the Week honor goes to a student-athlete who is seeing their first playing time for the team. Classifications include a new freshmen, redshirt freshmen, or transfers. Becker, a redshirt freshman, is seeing her first action for the Lady Flames after missing last season due to injury. The Lady Flames are in action this evening, as they travel for a 6 p.m. meeting with Virginia Tech.
