Freshman defender Hillary Bullock and the Lady Flames travel to Blacksburg, Va., for a meeting with the Hokies, Tuesday.
Liberty and Virginia Tech will square off, Tuesday, in women's lacrosse action for the second straight year. The contest at the Hokies' Thompson Field is set for a 6 p.m. opening draw.
The Lady Flames are coming off a tough 16-15 overtime loss to Bucknell, but had several standout performances in the contest. Morgan Becker and Kristin Crowley each netted six goals in last week's game, marking the most goals in the program's brief history by two players in a single game. On three previous occasions, a pair of Lady Flames had combined for 10 goals in a single game. Becker also added an assist, to total seven points.
Kristen Masullo also played strong between the pipes for Liberty, posting 16 saves on the Bison's 45 shots. The sophomore held a save percentage of .455 for the game. In the first half, Masullo blocked away eight shots, and helped Liberty hold Bucknell scoreless until the 3:19 mark of the first half.
In last year's meeting with the Hokies at Liberty's Osborne Stadium, the visitors claimed the win, 18-2. Virginia Tech is 6-4 this season, having already taken two wins against National Lacrosse Conference members High Point and Presbyterian College. Three of the team's four losses have come at the hands of ranked opponents: James Madison (13), Boston College (18) and Duke (4).
The Hokies are averaging nearly 13 goals per game, as six different team members have posted at least 11 goals this season. Jessica Nonn and Megan Will lead the way with 21 goals, apiece. Nonn has also added 10 assists for a team-high 31 points this season.
Alex Gale has received all 10 starts in net, to also hold a 6-4 record. The junior has posted 45 saves on the year, while allowing 98 goals. Her save percentage currently stands at .315.
