Following a vigorous two-plus hour practice on Thursday afternoon, FSN reporter Alan York had a chance to catch up with head coach Turner Gill, Pat Kelly and Kevin Fogg.
The three gave their immediate reactions to Liberty's first spring practice workout session under Gill, which was held under ideal weather conditions inside of Williams Stadium (mostly sunny skies and low 80s). Liberty's 90-plus man roster practiced in "helmets only" on Thursday, as part of the NCAA mandatory acclimation period.
Fogg will be one of Liberty's leaders on the defensive front, as well as special teams, as the All-America return specialist led the country in kickoff return yardage (33.52 yards per return) and kickoff returns for a touchdown (3) in 2011.
Kelly has been a winner for Liberty both in the classroom and on the field. The rising senior was named a first-team CoSIDA Academic All-American last year, after posting career numbers in receiving yards (591) and touchdowns (3), pushing him over the 1,000 career receiving mark in 2011.
The Flames will return to the practice field on Saturday morning for spring practice No. 2, starting at 10 a.m. LibertyFlames.com will be providing exclusive post-practice coverage on Saturday, featuring a more in-depth interview with Gill.
