After winning its third consecutive Big South Conference title, the Liberty women's indoor track & field team is ranked No. 15 in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division I Regional Index. The Lady Flames held off a strong second-day charge by Coastal Carolina to defeat the Chanticleers by 12.5 points and win their 10th Big South indoor team championship. Senior Jennifer Klugh led the way, winning the mile and 3K titles and finishing second to teammate Khristina Kanagy in the 5K. Klugh, who scored 28 points for the Lady Flames, was voted Big South Women's Outstanding Track Performer for the second year in a row. Freshman Mychelle Cumings provided another highlight, becoming the first Lady Flame ever to win the shot put crown at the Big South indoor meet. A dozen Liberty women's track & field athletes will compete in the ECAC Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships, which will be contested Saturday and Sunday at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston, Mass. Across town at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center, 18 Liberty men's track & field athletes will participate in the IC4A Indoor Track & Field Championships.
