The National Lacrosse Conference (NLC) released its preseason poll this afternoon, with the Liberty women's lacrosse team being projected to finish fifth within the conference this season.  The poll is voted on by the conference's head coaches.

High Point, the reigning NLC champion, is predicted to repeat for 2012, with Jacksonville in second.  Longwood and Davidson round out the teams selected above the Lady Flames at third and fourth, respectively, while Presbyterian College, Detroit and Howard complete the order of the poll.

Liberty, now in its third season in program history, is off to a 0-2 start after facing No. 3 North Carolina and Lafayette to open its 2012 campaign.

The Lady Flames aim to continue their climb, after posting a seven-win improvement during the 2011 season, which included a 2-5 mark within the conference.

Head Coach Regan Denham will look to mesh her squad's mix of returnees and newcomers this season.  The team brings back the top 10 points leaders from 2011 and has welcomed nine first-year student-athletes to the roster.

Key returners on the offensive end include Karis Walborn and Kristin Crowley, after they posted 40 and 31 goals, respectively, last year.  Midfielder and co-captain Jen Moyer is looking for a strong sophomore season after ranking in Liberty's top four in goals, assists, points, groundballs and caused turnovers in 2011.  Meanwhile, senior co-captain Chloe McIntosh will anchor the Lady Flames' defense in the field for the second year.

Kristen Masullo will look to lead the Lady Flames from the net once again, after a strong freshman campaign.  The Berkeley Heights, N.J., native led the conference in save percentage last year, while ranking inside the top 10 in the NCAA in two different statistical categories.  Masullo has made 21 saves through two games in 2012.

While most teams' seasons are underway, face-to-face matchups within the conference are slated to begin later in the month.  Liberty's first NLC contest is scheduled for March 30, when the team travels to take on Detroit.

Liberty returns to the field on March 4, when the Bearcats of Cincinnati travel to Lynchburg for a 2 p.m. meeting.
