Freshman Wayne Harrell posted a pair of victories for the Flames on Friday.
While Liberty was able to take the doubles point from East Carolina, the Pirates used four singles victories, Friday, to claim victory over the Flames, 4-3. After beginning the match outdoors, play concluded inside the ECU Indoor Tennis Center when rain arrived in the area.
Liberty is now level at 2-2 for the year, while ECU improves to 6-2 and maintains its perfect record at home, 5-0.
The Flames came out strong in doubles play, as they took two of the three matches to go up 1-0. It was the first time ECU had lost the doubles point at home this season.
Giancarlo Lemmi and Wayne Harrell continued their stellar doubles play early in the season, moving to 3-0 with the 8-5 win over David Masciorini and Niels Cleeran in the No. 2 match. Shea Thomas and Dillon Segur also won by an 8-5 margin, defeating John Schmitt and Mario Martinez in the No. 3 matchup.
The leadoff doubles match was forced into extra games, with Joran Vliegen and Nicolas Soriano defeating the Flames' Siim Tuus and Tristan Stayt, 9-8 (10-8).
Despite the 1-0 advantage, the homestanding Pirates were able to erase their early deficit, as they claimed each of the first three singles matches in straight sets.
Senior Lemmi picked up another point for the Flames as he defeated Pirates newcomer Cleeran, 6-2, 6-4, winning his third singles match of the year.
Liberty's final point of the afternoon came in the No. 6 match in the lineup. After being blanked in the opening set, Harrell rebounded nicely to take the final two sets, 6-3, 6-4.
