Loren Thomas has been named to the COBRA Magazine All-National team as an honorable mention selection.
Liberty junior middle blocker Loren Thomas received honorable mention on the third annual COBRA Magazine All-National Team, as announced on Monday. Thomas had previously been named to the COBRA All-Region Team for the second year in a row. This is her first mention on the all-national team. COBRA is a publication that celebrates the success of volleyball players of African, Samoan and Tongan descent. This is the second year in a row Liberty has placed a player on the COBRA national team. In 2010, senior Karyl Bacon was named to the all-national third team. Thomas, a native of Ocoee, Fla., was named to the 2011 Big South All-Conference first team. She also claimed the Big South Tournament MVP award while helping the Lady Flames to their sixth Big South postseason title. Most recently, she was named to the VaSID All-State first team. Thomas finished the season ranked 25th in the NCAA Division I national rankings, with a 1.32 blocks per set average. She set Liberty's program rally-scoring records for blocks during a single match (13 at Winthrop on Oct. 21) and in a single season (155) in 2011.
