The Liberty field hockey program has received its first Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) all-state honor, with freshman Helen Doolittle being named to the second team.  The teams were announced today by the organization.

The Lancaster, Pa., native was selected to the team as a defender, but her play impacted the Lady Flames on both ends of the field during the program's first season.

Doolittle provided the first goal in Liberty field hockey history, coming in a 3-1 defeat to Radford on Sept. 3.  She continued to pace the Lady Flames' offense, as she finished the season leading the team with seven goals and 14 points.  She recorded a pair of goals in the program's first victory, a 3-0 win over Marywood on Sept. 10.  Two of Doolittle's goals on the season were game winners.

On the defensive end, the freshman was part of a defense that held opponents to a slim .129 shot percentage and produced three shutouts on the year.  Doolittle also chipped in with a defensive save against Davidson.

Old Dominion had the most representatives on the teams, claiming five spots.  The Lady Monarchs also swept the individual awards with All-American Emma Batten, Kelsey Smither and Beth Anders receiving the Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year honors, respectively.  Batten and Anders were unanimous choices for their respective awards.

Three selections were consensus first team choices amongst voters.  Old Dominion's Stephanie Kratzer and Batten and Virginia's Elly Buckly were all voted as first team members on all returned ballots.
