2012 Liberty Women's Lacrosse Schedule

The Liberty women's lacrosse team will face a road-intensive schedule for the 2012 season, with 11 of the Lady Flames' 15 contests taking place away from Lynchburg.

The first eight games of the season place the Lady Flames against out-of-conference competition, including first-time contests with five different programs.  The final seven games are all National Lacrosse Conference (NLC) matchups, in what is Liberty's final year with the conference.  In June, the Big South Conference announced that it would begin to sponsor women's lacrosse for the 2013 season.

"As we continue to build our lacrosse program we want to provide ourselves with stronger and stronger schedules each year," commented head coach Regan Denham.  "We're excited to be facing Virginia Tech again, while also adding Cincinnati and George Mason to our schedule for our third season.  Combining that with the NLC schedule makes this year our toughest schedule yet."

Liberty's first game for 2012 will be the earliest game in program history, as the team will have its first meeting with Lafayette on Feb. 18, in Easton, Pa.

Denham's squad will then open the month of March by hosting the Bearcats of Cincinnati (March 4) in another first-time meeting.  The game will be the Lady Flames' first hosting opportunity on its new turf field, located on Liberty's Campus East.

"We've been provided with a beautiful new playing field—and are in the construction process with a facility—and look forward to hosting teams here at Liberty," stated Denham.  "Practicing on the new turf field has been great and we are very excited for our first regular-season game."

Next, Liberty travels to the greater New York City area for a pair of games, facing Long Island (Staten Island) and Wagner (Brooklyn) on March 8 and 10, respectively.  The contest with Wagner will be the first meeting between the programs.

Returning home, the Lady Flames meet up with their fourth new opponent, as in-state foe George Mason will visit the Hill City on March 14.

With its next five games on the road, Liberty will have to endure its longest regular-season road stretch in program history.  Matches with St. Francis (Pa.) and first-time opponent Bucknell will take place on March 17 and 21, before the Lady Flames face Virginia Tech in Blacksburg on March 27, as the programs meet for the second consecutive season.

The final two road games of the five-game stretch open NLC play for the Lady Flames. The team will close out March against Detroit Mercy (March 30) and open April against Howard (April 1).

Jacksonville and Presbyterian College will then make their first trips to Lynchburg to face the Lady Flames on April 13 and 15, respectively.  The matchup with the Blue Hose will serve as the team's final home contest of the season.

Liberty wraps up the regular season with three more conference contests away from home, facing defending NLC champions High Point (April 20), Davidson (April 22) and Longwood (April 27).

The season culminates with the NLC Tournament beginning on May 4 in Davidson, N.C., for the second consecutive year.  The tournament is scheduled to conclude on May 6.
