Junior middle blocker Loren Thomas has been named to the COBRA Magazine All-East Region Team for the second year in a row.
Liberty junior middle blocker Loren Thomas has been named to the All-East Region Team by COBRA Magazine. This marks the second year that Thomas has made the COBRA All-Region team. COBRA is a publication that celebrates the success of volleyball players of African, Samoan and Tongan descent. In 2010, Thomas and now-graduated senior Karyl Bacon were honored on the all-region team, and Bacon was named to the COBRA Magazine All-National third team. Thomas, a native of Ocoee, Fla., has been the leading blocker in the Big South for a majority of the season. She currently ranks 27th in the NCAA Division I national rankings, with a 1.32 blocks per set average. She has set Liberty's program rally-scoring records for blocks during a single match (13 at Winthrop on Oct. 21) and in a single season (151) this year. Thomas was named to the 2011 Big South All-Conference first team, and she claimed the Big South Tournament MVP award in helping the Lady Flames to their sixth Big South postseason title. The Lady Flames will open play at the 2011 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship on Dec. 2, playing against No. 8 overall seed and four-time defending national champion Penn State at 7:30 p.m. in University Park, Pa.
