Friday evening, midfielder Phillip Aseweh scored his fifth goal of the year during the 21st minute.  The senior took a pass from fellow midfielder Juan F. Niño in transition and buried a shot from the left side of the 18-yard box to give Liberty an advantage it never relinquished.

The Flames have averaged 2.36 goals per game, while allowing 1.18 goals per contests. The Flames have outscored their opponents, 26-13, on the season.

Liberty head coach Jeff Alder has guided his alma mater to a 104-77-16 overall mark and a 44-25-6 record in Big South play during his 11 seasons.

The Flames have shown a balanced scoring attack this season, as nine different players have scored goals and eight have tallied two or more. Aseweh leads Liberty and is third in the Big South Conference with 16 points. The senior has scored five goals and is second in the conference with six assists.

Forward Timothy Bullock has also reached double-digits in scoring with 12 points. The senior has netted four goals and recorded four assists. Midfielder Travis Joseph is also among the conference leaders with 12 points on four goals and four assists. He is tied with Bullock for sixth in the Big South in scoring.

Niño enters Tuesday night's game with five points and has tallied a point in each of his last three games. Last week, he scored his first goal of the season at Wofford and recorded an assist during Liberty's win, Friday night.

Freshman goalkeeper Scott Sutarik made his collegiate debut, Friday night. Sutarik recorded one save in posting the shutout. Before Friday, freshman Josh Pacella had started each of the previous 10 Liberty matches. He has posted a 1.34 goals-against average this season.

As a team, the Flames have posted four shutouts.

All-Time Against VMI
Liberty and VMI will meet for the 19th time, Tuesday evening. Although several matches have been tightly contested, the Flames have won all eight meetings between the two teams since the Keydets joined the Big South in 2003.

Liberty holds a 16-1-1 record over VMI in the all-time series, which started in 1975.

Last season, Liberty defender Greg White scored his first goal of the season in overtime to give the Flames a 1-0 overtime victory in Lexington, Va. With the match scoreless, the Flames were able to set-up a scoring opportunity with a corner kick from the left flank. Midfielder Zack Clark's kick hit off VMI goalkeeper Brian Sowell and came free for White, who put the ball into the net for the game-winner at 98:00 for the win.

In the last meeting between the Keydets and Flames at Osborne Stadium, Liberty claimed a 2-0 victory on Nov. 2, 2009. Midifielder Phillip Aseweh scored a goal and assisted on Darren Amoo's marker in the contest. Liberty Assistant Coach Andrew Madero was in goal for the Flames, as they recorded their 10th shutout of the year.

A Look at VMI
The Keydets will be looking for their second Big South win on Tuesday. VMI defeated UNC Asheville, 2-1, on Sept. 29 for its only win this season.

Led by Richie Rose (4-23-3, second year), the Keydets are averaging 0.76 goals per game this season. VMI has been outscored by its opponents, 28-10.

The Big South at Glance
Liberty enters the week with six points in Big South action with a 2-2 record. With five conference tilts remaining, the Flames are tied for fifth place with Presbyterian College and Campbell.
