Will Reeves, the lone senior on Liberty's men's cross country team, was the Flames' No. 4 finisher at Friday's Panorama Farms Invitational.
After placing fifth in Friday's Panorama Farms Invitational, the Liberty men's cross country team is now ranked No. 15 in the Southeast Region. The regional polls were announced today by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Head coach Brant Tolsma's Flames are the only Big South Conference squad to appear in this week's Southeast Region men's rankings. N.C. State and Eastern Kentucky hold down the region's top two spots. The Flames rested Zac Edwards on Friday, but were still able to place fifth in a competitive field at the Panorama Farms Invitational. All four teams who finished ahead of Liberty are also ranked in the Southeast Region, including Virginia (No. 7), Duke (No. 8), UNC Greensboro (No. 11) and Kentucky (No. 14). In Edwards' absence, David Ricksecker stepped up as Liberty's No. 1 finisher. The redshirt junior placed 12th overall with an 8K time of 25:08.6. Caleb Edmonds followed closely behind while running arguably the most impressive race of his young collegiate career. Edmonds came in 13th with an 8K personal-best clocking of 25:10.2. Liberty will now begin its final preparations for the 2011 Big South Cross Country Championships, set for Oct. 29 in Conway, S.C. The men's 8K will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by the women's 5K at 11:30 a.m. Both races will be contested at Coastal Carolina's Quail Creek Golf Club. The Flames will attempt to become the first men's cross country team in Big South history to win seven straight conference titles. The streak started in 2005, when assistant coach Josh McDougal was a sophomore on the team. USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Southeast Region Men's Cross Country Rankings 1) N.C.
