Zac Edwards has only run three races at Liberty but is now a two-time Big South Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week.
For the second time this season, Liberty redshirt juniors Zac Edwards and Jennifer Klugh have swept the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's and Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week honors. The duo previously accomplished the feat on Sept. 21. Edwards has now earned two Big South Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week accolades in just three races as a Liberty Flame. Meanwhile, Klugh has been named Big South Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week twice this season and four times for her career. Edwards won the men's 8K race at Friday's Charlotte Invitational. His time of 24:08.7 gave him a five-second victory over runner-up Gilbert Kemboi of USC Upstate. Edwards has now been victorious in two consecutive races, after finishing first at the Coastal Carolina Invitational/Big South Preview on Sept. 17. Edwards led three Liberty finishers in the top 13, helping the Flames finish second overall in the 34-team field. Liberty defeated regionally-ranked opponents Wake Forest and Georgia Tech, helping the Flames jump up to the No. 10 spot in this week's USTFCCCA Southeast Region rankings. In the women's 5K at Charlotte, Klugh broke a long-standing school record. Her time of 17:28.3 improved upon the existing school record of 17:35, which had been set by Lori Lingenfelter on Aug. 26, 1987. Klugh, who now owns the Liberty women's cross country 5K and 6K program records, placed seventh of 289 runners in the race. Her effort contributed to the Lady Flames' ninth-place finish out of 36 teams. Liberty will have this weekend off from competition, before returning to action Oct. 14 at the Panorama Farms Invitational in Charlottesville, Va. The meet, which will mark the Lady Flames' final tune-up for the Big South Cross Country Championships, will begin at 4 p.m.
