Following Thursday afternoon's practice, Liberty's final full practice before its match-up with Kentucky Wesleyan, Flames Sports Network reporter Alan York had a chance to talk with head football coach Danny Rocco.
The contest will be the second in the all-time series between the two programs, and the first since 2003. After losses to in-state foe James Madison and back to back FBS match-ups with Toledo and Bowling Green, the Flames knotted their first win in 2003 with a 47-7 victory over the visiting Panthers on Sept. 20, inside of Williams Stadium.
Last weekend, Liberty was one of nine Top 25 FCS programs in the country to fall. No. 23 Liberty dropped a heartbreaking 27-24 decision to No. 15/16 Lehigh, which has the Flames outside of the Top 25 rankings for the first time since October of 2009.
Saturday's match-up with Kentucky Wesleyan marks Liberty's final contest before the Flames begin their quest for a fifth-straight Big South Conference title. Since Big South play started in the 2002, Liberty is 3-6 in its final tune-up before league play opens. However, the Flames are 3-2 during the final game before opening league play under head coach Danny Rocco, having posted wins during their last non-conference game in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
The Flames Sports Network will be providing both radio and television coverage of the contest. The Flames Tailgate Radio Show goes on the air live at 5:30 p.m. and can be heard all throughout the Victory FM Radio Network. The television broadcast for the 7:07 p.m. kickoff will be available on most Flames Sports Network television partners, plus will be available on ESPN3.com.
