Jennifer Klugh has now won three Big South Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week awards during her career.
Liberty redshirt juniors Zac Edwards and Jennifer Klugh have been tabbed the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's and Women's Cross Country Runners of the Week, respectively. This is the third Big South Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week honor of Klugh's career, after she captured the award twice in 2010. Meanwhile, Edwards earns his first Big South Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week accolade after just his second race as a Liberty Flame. Edwards, who was previously named ECAC Division I Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week on Tuesday, won the individual title at Saturday's Coastal Carolina Invitational/Big South Preview. The South Alabama transfer's 8K time of 24:42 placed him 15 seconds in front of race runner-up Patrick Crawford from High Point. Edwards' effort led the Flames to a 25-40 upset victory over High Point in the final team standings. The Panthers were picked to win this year's Big South title and ranked in the USTFCCCA Southeast Region poll before Saturday's race. Meanwhile, Klugh made a successful 2011 season debut at the Coastal Carolina Invitational/Big South Preview. The reigning Big South women's cross country individual champion clocked a 5K time of 18:09, placing fourth overall and first among Big South runners. She trailed only a trio of runners from No. 8 Duke's squad. Liberty will have this weekend off from competition, before returning to action Sept. 30 at the Charlotte Invitational at McAlpine Park. The women's 5K will start at 4 p.m., with the men's 8K to follow at 4:30.
