Liberty sophomores Sarah McCorkle and Bethany Wakeley have been named team captains for the 2011-12 swimming season.
Liberty swimming head coach Jake Shellenberger has selected the team captains for the Lady Flames' second season of NCAA Division I competition. Sophomores Sarah McCorkle and Bethany Wakeley will serve as captains during the 2011-12 season. McCorkle and Wakeley were instrumental in Liberty's success as a first-year program last season. McCorkle swam on the Lady Flames' 200 and 400 free relays that finished third at the CCSA Championships. Wakeley joined McCorkle, along with Brye Ravettine and Lindsey Romkes, on the third-place 400 free relay at the conference meet. Wakeley placed fourth in the 200 fly at the conference championships, while McCorkle added a seventh-place finish in the 50 free. Liberty completed its inaugural 2010-11 swimming season by finishing sixth out of 13 CCSA teams at the league championship meet. Four Lady Flames swimmers (McCorkle, Ravettine, Wakeley and Emily Mudd) then competed in the 2011 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships in Palo Alto, Calif., during the summer. The Lady Flames are in training for the upcoming season, which opens with a dual meet at Marshall of Conference USA on Oct. 22.
