15 years after helping Liberty capture the 1996 IC4A championship, some of the student-athletes and coaches pictured above will take part in the Flames' track & field alumni gathering on Oct. 15.
The Liberty Track & Field program announces an alumni gathering, in conjunction with the University's Homecoming celebration on Oct. 15. The event will include a 200-meter hill run, a tailgate meal for lunch, the Homecoming parade, a tour of the new track & field facilities and the Liberty-Coastal Carolina football game.
To begin the day, alumni (who think they still have something in the tank) will have the opportunity to race head coach Brant Tolsma up a 200-meter hill on campus. Interested alumni are asked to meet at the outdoor track at 11:30 a.m., and the race will commence at 11:40 a.m.
Alumni will then proceed to the Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex at Osborne Stadium for a tailgate meal at Noon.
Following the meal, the track & field alumni can watch the 1 p.m. Homecoming parade, which will include a float with the current Liberty track & field student-athletes. At the parade's conclusion around 2:30 p.m., a tour of the indoor and outdoor track & field facilities will be available.
Finally, the day will culminate with Liberty's football game against Big South Conference rival Coastal Carolina at 3:30 p.m. at Williams Stadium.
If you are interested in attending the track & field Homecoming events, please contact track & field graduate assistant Ashley Teer at email@example.com or (434) 582-2135. There is also a Facebook event page set up, titled "Liberty University Track & Field Homecoming 2011."
