Defensive specialists Courtney Cooper and Becca Haraf combined for 41 digs during Liberty's Blue-White Scrimmage Tuesday evening at the Vines Center.
The White team claimed sets four and five for a 3-2 win (25-18, 24-26, 18-25, 25-21, 15-9) in Liberty volleyball's annual Blue-White Scrimmage, held Tuesday evening at the Vines Center. A kill and service ace by sophomore Lillie Happel sealed the five-set victory for the White squad. Due to the number of players on Liberty's roster, numerous players switched teams during the scrimmage, and assistant coach Jennifer Vaden suited up and played a key role for the Blue team. Both teams hit very efficiently, with the White team out-hitting the Blue club, .321 to .258, while both teams collected 64 digs and five blocks. Junior middle hitter Loren Thomas starred during the exhibition, posting a match-best 19 kills at a .471 clip and adding five blocks (two solo, three assists). Redshirt sophomore Kendle Rollins added 16 kills and two blocks from the middle, hitting .387 for the match. Outside hitters Happel and freshman Ansley Gebben both notched double-doubles while playing exclusively for the White team. Happel registered 18 kills and added 11 digs, in addition to three aces. Gebben totaled 16 kills and as many digs during Tuesday's action. Redshirt freshman Kaylee Groeneveld made a big impact for the Blue team, earning 12 kills while hitting .407 on the evening. Vaden collected a double-double (18 kills, 10 digs), making key plays for the Blue squad all night. Sophomore setter Jade Craycraft dished out a match-high 43 assists. Courtney Boggs checked in with 29 assists and Lauren Bosché added 28 helpers. Becca Haraf led seven Lady Flames in double figures with 26 digs, followed by Kelly Haseman with 20. Courtney Cooper had 15 digs and freshman Gabrielle Shipe posted 10 digs. The Lady Flames open the regular season Friday at Georgia, competing against the host Bulldogs in their first match at the Bulldog Invitational at 7 p.m.
