Senior Keely McMillon and the Lady Flames will host Presbyterian in a three-game conference series this weekend, with Senior Day scheduled for Sunday.
After a tough week, the Lady Flames will try to turn it around this weekend, hosting Presbyterian College in Liberty's final home conference series of 2011. A doubleheader with the Blue Hose is scheduled for Saturday starting at 1 p.m., followed by a single game on Senior Day, Sunday, at 1 p.m. All three games will be video-streamed live on the Big South Network, and live stats will also be available via GameTracker for all three contests. The Lady Flames (22-23, 8-4 Big South) will try to recover from a five-game skid this weekend, as they are coming off two losses to Longwood and Virginia Tech, plus a loss to Radford in a game that was resumed from March 23. Liberty's last victory came on April 20 over Norfolk State, which marked head coach Paul Wetmore's 500th career win. As a team, the Lady Flames lead the Big South with a .291 overall batting average, followed by Presbyterian College (.270). Liberty also leads the league in slugging percentage (.458), on-base percentage (.358), runs scored (245), hits (364), RBIs (225), home runs (50) and total bases (573). The Lady Flames also have the highest Big South batting average in conference-only games (.335), while the Blue Hose are third (.268). Keely McMillon leads the team with a .378 batting average, while Kelly Strickland is hitting .374 with a conference-best 14 home runs. McMillon and Strickland rank No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, in the league for highest batting average. Katrina Johnson (11-8) leads the Liberty pitching staff with a 2.36 ERA and 91 strikeouts. Liberty is 8-5 at Liberty Softball Field this season. The Blue Hose (24-15-1, 8-7 Big South) took two out of three games from Big South member Coastal Carolina on April 22 and 23 in Clinton, S.C. Presbyterian College currently leads the Big South with a 2.00 ERA and a .237 opposing batting average. The pitching staff is paced by Leslie Hensley, who ranks first in the conference in opposing batting average (.208) and wins (16). Tera Powell is hitting .371 for the Blue Hose, one of four players to be hitting over .300 this season. She is also 29-for-30 in stolen base attempts. Meanwhile, Morgan Durham is hitting .345 with a team-high 24 RBIs. The Lady Flames are 6-3 all-time against the Blue Hose, and won the last meeting between the two teams, 2-0, in the first round of the Big South Championships on May 13, 2010. In addition, Liberty is a perfect 3-0 against Presbyterian College at Liberty Softball Field.
