Jenny Law was 2-for-3 as the Lady Flames dropped a 6-0 decision to Longwood.

Two three-run frames were enough for Longwood, as the Lancers snapped Liberty's eight-game winning streak, Saturday afternoon, handing the Lady Flames a 6-0 loss.

The Lancers outhit the Lady Flames, 8-5, and Liberty committed two errors in the field. The Lady Flames drop to 22-19 on the year, while Longwood improves to 29-11.

The Lancers took an early lead, scoring three runs on two hits and a Liberty error in the bottom of the first. Nichole Simmons led off with a single up the middle, and Maggie Margadonna took first when she was hit by a pitch. Simmons scored on the next play, when designated player Brooke Short doubled down the right field line.

Another run scored on a fielding error by Sammi Shivock, and Short came home when Tricia Nelson grounded out, giving Longwood a 3-0 advantage.

Liberty struggled in the bottom of the second, as the Lancers tacked on three more runs for a 6-0 lead. Tiffani Smith walked in a run, and Ashley Kramer drove in two more runs with a single up the middle.

The Lancers made another threat in the bottom of the third, loading the bases with one out. But relief pitcher Alyssa DiMartino tossed back-to-back looking strikeouts to end the inning without any additional Longwood runs scoring.

Ashley Bensinger got on base for Liberty in the top of the fourth when she was hit by a pitch with one out. But Jenny Law lined out on the next play, and third baseman Jordan Cox fired the ball to first for the double play.

Meredith Crisante reached on an infield single to lead off the top of the fifth. But after two strikeouts, she was caught stealing at second to end Liberty's at-bat.

The Lady Flames put a runner on base in the top of the seventh, when Bensinger singled up the middle with one out. Law followed up with a blooper that dropped into shallow center field for a hit, moving Bensinger into scoring position.

Both runners advanced when Crisante grounded out, pinch hitter Grace Nordan walked to load the bases. But Bridgett Woods struck out for the third out, sealing the 6-0 Longwood win.

Law led the Lady Flames, batting 2-for-3. Other Lady Flames recording hits were Keely McMillon, Bensinger and Crisante.

The Lancers were led by Kramer, who was 1-for-3 with two RBIs, and Kami Nuckols, who hit 3-for-3.

Smith (8-11) suffered the loss in the circle, giving up five hits in 2.1 innings of work. Briana Wells picked up the win, improving to 26-11 on the year. The senior gave up five hits and struck out seven batters in the complete-game shutout.

The two teams will meet again this afternoon for game two of the doubleheader at Lancer Field.
