One of the tournaments will be hosted by the Lady Flames, and marks the first Liberty-hosted tournament since the 2009 season. The Lady Flames fell to Elon in the 2009 Liberty Invitational championship match. Liberty will face four first-time opponents in 2011. The 2010 Liberty squad won its fourth straight Big South regular-season title with a 14-2 conference record. Head Coach Shane Pinder was named the Big South Coach of the Year, while setter Jade Craycraft earned Big South Freshman of the Year honors. Liberty's 25 overall wins also marked the fourth straight season in which the Lady Flames have posted at least 20 victories, with a 25-9 record. The Lady Flames will open the 2011 season Aug. 26 and 27 in Athens, Ga., competing in a tournament at Georgia along with Kansas and Florida A&M. Next up is a single match against Oregon on August 31 at American's campus in Washington, D.C. The Ducks, who went 12-0 in non-conference contests last year, finished the season receiving AVCA Top 25 votes. The Lady Flames will then travel to rising senior Kelly Haseman's home state of Michigan to appear in a tournament at Western Michigan, where Liberty will face the host team, as well as Seton Hall and North Carolina. Liberty will then host a tournament in the Vines Center Sept. 9 and 10, welcoming Rider, St. Francis (Pa.) and CSU Bakersfield. The Lady Flames have never faced Rider or CSU Bakersfield, but are 1-0 against St. Francis after a 3-0 victory at the Patriot Invitational on Sept. 5, 2008. Liberty will then travel to Raleigh, N.C., for its final tournament before league play begins, at N.C. State, along with Towson and The Citadel, Sept. 16 and 17. After a non-conference match at James Madison on Sept. 20, the Lady Flames will open Big South Conference play at Radford on Sept. 23. Liberty returns home to host UNC Asheville and Gardner-Webb for league matches on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, before traveling to High Point on Oct. 7 to face the defending Big South champion Panthers. From there, the Lady Flames will head to Buies Creek, N.C., to match up against Campbell, the newest member of the Big South. After a three-match homestand hosting VCU, Coastal Carolina and Charleston Southern, Liberty heads out on the road again to face Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C. on Oct. 21, before taking a trip to Clinton, S.C. to take on Presbyterian College. The Lady Flames then return to the Vines Center for three matches against Radford, Campbell and High Point on Oct. 28, Nov. 4 and Nov. 5, respectively, with the match against High Point marking the final home match of the 2011 slate. Road matches against Gardner-Webb on Nov. 11 and UNC Asheville on Nov. 12 will conclude the 2011 regular season. The 2011 Big South Volleyball Championships will be hosted by Charleston Southern in Charleston, S.C., Nov. 17-20. This year, the opening rounds of the tournament will be played on Nov. 17 and 18, with a day off taking place before the championship match is contested on Nov. 20. The 2011 NCAA Volleyball Championships are scheduled to begin Dec. 1-4.
