The Liberty men's track & field team is ranked No. 7 in the Southeast Region, while the Lady Flames check in at No. 13.
On the eve of the Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships, both the Liberty men's and women's outdoor track & field teams are ranked in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division I Regional Index. The Flames are listed No. 7 in the Southeast Region, while the Lady Flames sit at No. 13. North Carolina owns a slim lead over Virginia Tech atop the men's regional rankings, while the Clemson women's team is a clear leader in the women's standings. Liberty is the only Big South Conference team represented in the regional rankings for either gender. Liberty took this past weekend off from competition, in preparation for the Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which begin Thursday in Lexington, Va. The three-day championship meet will get underway with the men's javelin, Thursday at 9 a.m. at VMI's Read Memorial Track. If Liberty is able to win the men's and women's team titles this weekend, the Flames and Lady Flames will wrap up their second straight Big South Conference "Double Triple." Liberty captured the Big South men's and women's cross country titles, as well as the men's and women's indoor track & field crowns, earlier this year.
