Redshirt junior center Avery Warley was tabbed a first team VaSID All-State honoree.
Liberty redshirt junior center Avery Warley and redshirt sophomore guard/forward Devon Brown were each voted to the 2010-11 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) University Division All-State Women's Basketball Team. Warley was a first-team selection, while Brown garnered honorable mention recognition. Top honors went to State Player of the Year Dawn Evans of James Madison, Coach of the Year David Six of Hampton and Rookie of the Year Ataira Franklin of Virginia. Warley's honor gives Liberty a VaSID first team all-state honoree for the fifth straight season. Megan Frazee made the first team in 2007, 2008 and 2009, while Brown was voted to the first team in 2010. This is the third straight season Warley has earned VaSID accolades. The Washington, D.C. native was tabbed State Rookie of the Year in 2009 and made the second team all-state roster a year ago. Warley has won numerous awards as a result of her stellar junior campaign. She was named Big South Defensive Player of the Year, first team All-Big South and Big South All-Tournament team. She was also a second team Richmond Times-Dispatch All-State pick. Warley averaged a double-double (12.0 ppg, 11.0 rpg), while leading the Big South in rebounds (11.0 rpg), field goal percentage (.620) and double-doubles (19). She tied for ninth nationally in double-doubles and ranked No. 14 in rebounds. Warley totaled 363 rebounds on the year, breaking the Liberty and Big South Conference single-season rebounding marks. She pulled down 48 boards in three games at the Big South Championship, setting a new record for most rebounds in a single tournament. While at the Big South Championship, Warley became the 13th Lady Flame ever to score 1,000 points for her career. Meanwhile, this is Brown's second honorable mention All-State selection in recent weeks. She was awarded the same recognition by the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Brown was also a first team All-Big South selection for the second consecutive season. Brown led Liberty in scoring (13.5 ppg) and three-pointers made (35), despite missing the first seven games of the season due to injury. The Waynesboro, Va. native, who also made the Terrapin Classic All-Tournament team, ended the year with 917 career points. She and Elena Kisseleva are the only two sophomores in program history ever to reach the 900-point mark. Warley and Brown helped Liberty finish the year at 22-11. The Lady Flames captured the 12th Big South regular-season title in program history, thanks to a 14-2 conference record. Liberty then wrapped up the 2010-11 campaign with its first trip to the Postseason WNIT.
