Aimee Luurtsema and the Lady Flames kick off the 2011 spring soccer season at Longwood, March 25, at 7 p.m.
With the 2011 soccer season approximately five months away, the Liberty women's soccer season team is dusting off the cleats for a gamut of games during this year's spring campaign. Entering her fourth season as Liberty's head coach, Jessica Hain's Lady Flames will compete in seven contests throughout March and April. Liberty begins its spring slate by travelling east on Highway 460 to Farmville, Va., March 25, at 7 p.m. The Lady Flames take on fellow Commonwealth competitor Longwood in a rematch of their regular-season clash. During the 2010 fall campaign, Liberty played a closely contested match-up with the Lancers, falling in late minutes at the Longwood Athletics Complex, 1-0. On April 9, Hain's squad heads to Winston Salem, N.C., for the Southern Soccer College Showcase. The event pits the Lady Flames in back-to-back tilts against two programs from the Tar Heel State. Liberty begins the afternoon versus Davidson at 2 p.m., followed by a meeting with UNC Greensboro at 4 p.m. Eight days later, the Lady Flames make a stop in Blacksburg, Va., to appear in the Virginia Tech Invitational on April 17. Times are yet to be announced for the four-team tournament, which also includes the hosting Hokies, Marshall and Radford. Liberty returns to Osborne Stadium on April 19, for its second spring meeting with Longwood. Game time for the nightcap between the Lady Flames and the Lancers is set for 7 p.m. The team then closes out its spring season at nearby Lynchburg College on April 29. The Lady Flames match-up with the Hornets at Lynchburg's Shellenberger Field begins at 7 p.m.
