Josh Edmonds is seen here accepting his award as 2010 Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's cross country.
Liberty redshirt senior Josh Edmonds has been named to the 2010 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I Men's Cross Country All-Academic team, earning the honor for the second time in his career. To qualify for the USTFCCCA Cross Country All-Academic team, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 and have either earned USTFCCCA All-America status or finished in the NCAA region's top 15 (or top 10 percent) in 2010. Edmonds was one of only 56 NCAA Division I men's cross country runners who met both requirements. He graduated with a 3.78 degree as a criminal justice major and currently boasts a 3.33 GPA through the first semester of his graduate studies. The Empire State native also capped off his collegiate cross country career with a 15th-place finish at the NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championships. Edmonds was previously included on the USTFCCCA Division I Men's Cross Country All-Academic squad in 2008. He has also earned a considerable amount of academic recognition on the conference level. Edmonds was voted Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's cross country in both 2008 and 2010. Additionally, he is a four-time Big South All-Academic team member and has earned a spot on the Big South Presidential Honor Roll for four consecutive years. In addition to garnering his second career all-region honor during the 2010 cross country season, Edmonds claimed his fourth All-Big South recognition, after placing third at the Big South Cross Country Championships. Edmonds joins Josh McDougal as the only Liberty men's cross country runners ever to become four-time All-Big South performers. Edmonds is currently competing in his final indoor track & field campaign in a Liberty Flames uniform. He has qualified for the IC4A Indoor Track & Field Championships in both the 3K (8:26.55) and 5K (14:25.89). Edmonds ranks third in the Big South in both events, heading to the Big South Indoor Track & Field Championships, Feb. 24-25 in Clemson, S.C.
