For the second time this season, Robert Karlsson has been named Big South Golfer of the Week, honoring his efforts at the JU Invitational.
Following a runner-up finish to the country's No. 1 golfer, Liberty's Robert Karlsson has been named this week's Big South Men's Golfer of the Week, as named by the league office earlier today. Karlsson posted a three-under par 213 and finished second in the JU Invitational, finishing two strokes behind medalist Bank Vongvanij. The Florida senior, who is the nations' top ranked golfer, posted a five-under par 211. Karlsson, who came into the event ranked No. 89 in the country, finished ahead of seven golfers ranked higher than him in the latest standings. Included in that group were No. 18 Evan Beck of Wake Forest and No. 20 Tyler McCumber of Florida. The three-under par 213 marked the third time in five tournaments this year that Karlsson has posted a finishing score in red figures. Karlsson closed the event, which was contested at the famed TPC – Sawgrass Stadium Course, with a three-under par 69. This marked the fifth time this season and the 16th time in his three-year career that Karlsson has fired a sub-70 round of golf. Karlsson has two runner-up finishes on his ledger this season and has finished Top 10 in four out of five events. The three-under par 213 dropped his season stroke average to 71.5. Karlsson has now been named Big South Golfer of the Week twice this season and five times during his three-year career on Liberty Mountain. Karlsson and the rest of the Flames will return to the golf links on Feb. 28 and March 1 to participate in the Seahawk Intercollegiate. The 54-hole event is hosted by UNC Wilmington at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C.
