LaKendra Washington scored nine points off the bench during Liberty's 71-19 win over Virginia Union on Tuesday.

Fresh off of its first win of the 2010-11 season, the Liberty women's basketball team is ranked No. 21 in this week's CollegeInsider.com Women's Mid-Major Top 25.

The Lady Flames, listed No. 8 in the preseason Top 25, bounced back from tight opening-weekend losses to Creighton and College of Charleston in a major way, last night at the Vines Center. Liberty (1-2) led from start to finish in a 71-19 victory over Virginia Union, nearly setting a program record for fewest points allowed.

Green Bay takes over the No. 1 spot in this week's poll, after opening its season with wins over George Washington and Minnesota. Big South squad Gardner-Webb moves up to No. 17 this week, while Liberty's season-opening opponent Creighton is tied for the No. 18 spot.

The women's Mid-Major Top 25 is comprised of teams from the America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Great West, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt and West Coast Conference.

Liberty will play its second consecutive home game Saturday, when Lafayette visits the Vines Center for the first time. Tip-off is scheduled for noon.
