The Lady Flames have had a successful fall tournament season, and now look forward to the spring with the release of the 2011 schedule.
Complete Women's Tennis Schedule
After a successful fall tournament season, Liberty Women's Tennis Coach Chris Johnson has announced the slate for the 2011 women's tennis spring season.
The 2011 schedule boasts match-ups with many programs that earned end-of-season regional rankings last year.
In the ITA's Atlantic Region alone, where Liberty resides, the Lady Flames will face five teams that ended last season in the top 10, while also competing in a tournament with William and Mary, who was ranked No. 4 at the end of the season in the region, and No. 56 nationally. Marshall held the highest ranking, finishing the year at No. 3, while Old Dominion, West Virginia, UMBC and James Madison held down the spots No. 7-10, respectively.
The Big South schedule, which includes six matches, will be highlighted by visits to Rock Hill, S.C., to face Winthrop (Feb. 26), which ended last season ranked No. 6 in the ITA's Carolina Region, and No. 64 in the nation; Boiling Springs, N.C., to face Gardner-Webb (March 26); and Asheville, N.C., to face Asheville (March 27). Squaring off with the Lady Flames in Lynchburg are Big South members Presbyterian College (March 11), Charleston Southern (March 19) and Coastal Carolina(April 8).
Big South play will culminate with the 2011 Big South Tennis Championships, April 20-23 in Rock Hill, S.C..
Liberty is scheduled to compete in eight matches on its home courts during the 2011 spring season.
The Lady Flames look to bounce back this season after finishing an injury-filled 2010 campaign with a 1-5 Big South record and a 5-16 mark overall. Seniors Jordan Jenkins, Hannah Fick and Valeriya Klintsevich will lead a young, but talented team, as the Lady Flames have brought in four freshmen this season who have already made an impact during the fall tournament season.
The Lady Flames kick off the season on Jan. 16, by competing in the William and Mary Tournament in Williamsburg, Va.
