Brant Tolsma was voted Big South Men's and Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year.
As Liberty makes final preparations for Saturday's NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Cross Country Championships, Nick Pierce chatted with both head coach Brant Tolsma and first-year assistant coach Derek Scott.
The regional meet, to be held at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky., will determine the qualifiers for the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships. Defending national champion Sam Chelanga and 2009 cross country All-American Evans Kigen are both expected to be near the front of the pack during Saturday's men's race. Liberty also hopes to send a full men's team to the national meet for the first time in program history.
On the women's side, Big South champion Jennifer Klugh appears to be the Lady Flame with the best chance at national qualification. If successful, she would become Liberty's first women's runner to make the national meet since Heather Sagan in 2001.
The meet will get underway with the women's 6K at 10 a.m. The men's 10K will follow at 11:15 a.m.
