Karyl Bacon became the first Lady Flame to earn ESPN Academic All-District honors since 2004.

Liberty's Karyl Bacon was named to the 2010 ESPN Academic All-District second team for volleyball. The senior from Temecula, Calif., becomes the first Lady Flame to win the honor since Kristin Colson in 2004.

The kinesiology major has made quite an impact on the Liberty volleyball program, and just recently she became the ninth player in Lady Flames history to record over 1,000 kills and digs in her career. The outside hitter leads this year's squad in kills (415) and total points (455).

Bacon also ranks among the top players in the Big South Conference, as she is one of only two players in the league to have recorded a 20-kill, 20-dig match this season. She ranks third with five 20-kill matches in 2010.

Bacon was named to the all-tournament team in every preseason tournament the Lady Flames competed in this year, and she has won Big South Player of the Week honors three times in 2010.

Off the court, Bacon is a three-time Big South Presidential Honor Roll member, and she has served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C.) for three years.

Other Big South players receiving All-Academic regional honors were Coastal Carolina's Chelsy Kimes (first team) and Megan Bickford (second team), and Presbyterian College's Ashley Dunlap (third team).
