Lillie Happel was tabbed the Big South Conference Freshman of the Week, while Kendle Rollins picked up Defensive Player of the Week honors for matches played last week.
The accolades mark the first conference honors in each of the Lady Flames' young careers.
Happel, an outside hitter from Ellicott City, Md., recorded 25 kills, 10 blocks, 15 digs and served up 10 aces to help Liberty to a 3-0 league record last week. She got her week started with nine kills, a .348 average at the net, six digs and four blocks as the Lady Flames downed High Point last Tuesday. Three days later, Happel posted eight kills, four aces, a career-high five blocks and a dig in Liberty's 3-0 win over Presbyterian College. She finished her week with eight kills on .375 attacking to go along with a career-high six aces, eight digs and one block in the 3-0 win over Gardner-Webb on Saturday.
Rollins, a redshirt freshman from Lebanon, Ohio, posted 18 blocks and averaged 1.80 blocks per set in Liberty's three Big South wins last week. Against High Point on Oct. 19, the middle blocker posted seven rejections, including two solo blocks. Three days later she turned back seven Blue Hose attacks. She closed out her week with four blocks against Gardner-Webb on Oct. 23. She currently leads the team with 96 blocks on the year, and ranks third in the Big South, averaging 1.02 blocks per set.
Liberty will continue Big South play this weekend, facing off against Charleston Southern in Charleston, S.C., Friday at 7 p.m., and Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C., Saturday at 2 p.m.
