Tristan Stayt teamed with Stanislav Vaughan to capture the Flight A2 Doubles championship in the Elon Fall Invitational.
The men's tennis team returned to action this weekend, competing in the Elon Fall Invitational in Elon, N.C. Doubles success highlighted the weekend, with Tristan Stayt and Stanislav Vaughan pairing together to capture a championship for the Flames, doing so in the Flight A2 Doubles bracket. The sophomore and freshman combo started the weekend off by earning an 8-5 win over Radford's team of Thomas Dehaen and Stijn Meulemans. Their next match placed Stayt and Vaughan against Nobu Tanaka and Crescente Lesser of Longwood, and the Flames duo came up victorious, 8-4. In the championship match, Stayt and Vaughan defeated host Elon's team of Eric Turner and Cameron Silverman, 9-7. Senior transfer David Kwon and senior Benjamin Wirth also produced doubles play success for the Flames, making it to the championship match of the C doubles bracket. They opened play with an 8-0 win over the Paul Jeter and Mason King combo from Winston Salem State University. Next they defeated Campbell's team of James Jones and Garrison Kinney, 9-8 (2), before dropping the championship match to UNC Greensboro's Zach Reece and Jimmy Roueche, 8-6. Siim Tuus and Tristan Stayt each produced 2-1 records for the Flames on the weekend in singles play. Tuus's record included a 6-3, 6-3 win over the No. 3 seeded Josh Girling of Tennessee Tech in the A1 flight, while Stayt picked up his two victories after dropping his opening round match with Justin Kirstein of Tennessee Tech, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5. The Flames continue their fall tennis season with the ITA Indoor Regionals in Charlottesville, Va., Oct. 20-22.
