After struggling to impress Coach Danny Rocco on the field or Coach Bill Gillespie in the weight room, Liberty's mascot Sparky has spent the last few days trying to get into better shape by working out at the Williams Stadium expansion site.

During the last nine months, the Liberty University Athletics Department has put all its effort into preparing for the Williams Stadium grand re-opening on Oct. 2. However, Sparky has been lagging behind and is not living up to the effort shown by the rest of the Athletics Department.

Head coach Danny Rocco tried working with Sparky (see video highlights), but the mascot's effort was lackluster. Coach Bill Gillespie, who has trained collegiate and NFL football players to elite levels of performance, was unable to break Sparky, as the mascot struggle with even the basics of weight training (see video highlights).

In a last-ditch effort to get Sparky into tip-top shape, the mascot has spent the last several days "working" out at the Williams Stadium expansion site.

The mascot was assigned to help Branch & Associate, Inc., finish up the Williams Stadium expansion project in time for next weeend's Hall of Fame contest. But, just like his stops with Rocco and Gillespie, Sparky was unable to cut it and the project foreman fired Sparky for his poor work ethic and has sent him away to Mascot Boot Camp.

Sparky will spend the next week in an intense environment, where the best-of-the-best collegiate mascots train to get into top-notch shape for their seasons. Be sure to be part of the expected record-setting crowd inside of Williams Stadium on Oct. 2 to see the Flames tangle with the Tigers of Savannah State and the unveiling the new buff and fit Sparky following his stay at Mascot Boot Camp.
