Liberty women's soccer forward Aimee Luurtsema has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Women's Soccer Attacking Player of the Week for games played last week. The announcement was made this afternoon by the conference office.

Luurtsema is the first Liberty player this season to receive weekly honors, earning the first player of the week award of her collegiate career. The midfielder's big week began last Wednesday in Liberty's 6-0 win over Southern Virginia. Luurtsema spearheaded the Lady Flames' offensive attack, finishing with two goals, two assists and a career-high total of six points.

The Grandville, Mich., native's point total marked the first time a Liberty player has finished with six points in a contest since Oct. 16, 2007, when former Lady Flames forward and current volunteer assistant coach Kendall (Bartholomew) Alvey scored three goals in Liberty's first-ever meeting with Southern Virginia.

Luurtsema followed up her six-point performance with another in Friday's contest against Howard, this time concluding the contest with three goals. The junior's hat trick came in the first half of Liberty's game against Howard, as she netted all three tallies in less than 36 minutes to lead the Lady Flames over the Bison, 5-0. Luurtsema's 12-point week ties her with Charleston Southern's Marky Boyce for first in the conference in total points with 19.

Luurtsema currently leads the Lady Flames in goals (8), assists (3) and points (19), this season and is ranked No. 7 in the nation in both total goals and points. Through nine games in 2010, she is already tied for fourth on Liberty's all-time single-season goal scoring list. Luurtsema's point total also places her at fourth all-time on Liberty's single-season points list.

The forward's 19 points marks highest total by a Liberty player in 10 years. The only player in Liberty history to ever score more than 19 points in a single season was Nancy Davis. One of the program's most decorated players, Davis accomplished the feat three-consecutive years: 1998 (21), 1999 (43) and 2000 (33).

The 3-4-2 Lady Flames return to action this Friday, as they travel to Farmville, Va., to take on Longwood. Game time at Longwood's Athletic Complex is slated for 7 p.m.
