After a dominating victory at Friday's Coastal Carolina Invitational, the Liberty men's cross country team moved up to No. 8 in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Southeast Region poll. The Flames, who were ranked No. 9 a week ago, are again joined in the regional poll by Big South rival High Point. The Panthers check in at No. 12 this week. The top four teams remain the same, led by No. 1 N.C. State and No. 2 Duke. Liberty rolled to a 31-point victory over runner-up UNC Wilmington at the Coastal Carolina Invitational, after placing six runners in the top 11. Evans Kigen started his year in fine fashion, winning the 6K race in a new course-record time of 18:30.8. Fellow veterans Jake Reed and Mark Hopely followed in third and fifth place, respectively. The Big South Preview is the next race on Liberty's schedule, but only the Lady Flames will compete this Saturday in Blacksburg, Va. Their race starts at 11:30 a.m. at Blacksburg Middle School. Both Liberty's men's and women's cross country teams will be in action Oct. 1 at the Brooks Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pa. The Flames will race at 11 a.m. that morning, followed by the Lady Flames' race at 11:45.
