2002 Liberty graduate Rob McClellan will be playing alongside the best golfers in the world this week, when he tees it up at the 2010 PGA Championship in Kohler, Wis.
Official PGA Championship Page This week, the best golfers in the world will descend upon Kohler, Wis., to contend for the final major championship of 2010, the 92nd PGA Championship at Whistling Straits Golf Course. Included among the field of 156 golfers will be Liberty golf alumni Rob McClellan, who is currently the head golf professional at Butler Country Club in Butler, Pa. McClellan, a 2002 graduate of Liberty, qualified for "Glory's Last Shot," by finishing among the top 20 golfers in the 2010 PGA Professional National Championship. McClellan came into the final day of play at the French Lick Resort in French Lick, Ind., in a share of 44th place, with a three-day six-over par total. Following a bogey on the par-4 No. 2 hole, McClellan birdied three of the next five holes to find red numbers on the day. However, a double-bogey six on the par-4 No. 9 hole, dropped him back to even par on the day and well outside the Top 20. Birdies on No. 10 and No. 11 got McClellan back on track and a third back-nine birdie on the par-4 No. 18 hole helped move the Liberty graduate back inside the Top 20. After the final scorecards were tallied, McClellan found himself with a three-over par 289 for the four days of competition. The score was good enough for a six-way tie for 15th place, which earned him the ticket to this week's PGA Championship. McClellan is one of 20 PGA club professionals that will be teeing it up alongside the best golfers from around the world. Traditionally, several PGA club professionals make the cut each year at the PGA Championship, with the low scoring club professional being recognized in the winner's ceremony at the conclusion of the tournament. McClellan has been a PGA Tour professional since 2002. He has several Top 10 finishes to his professional playing career resume, including a third-place finishes at the 2006 and 2009 Pennsylvania Open and a runner-up finish at the 2009 Tri-State PGA Falling Rock Classic. McClellan is scheduled to tee off in the final pairing on Thursday, along with Jimmy Walker of Boerne, Texas, and Simon Khan, Epping, England. The threesome is slated to tee off No. 10 tee at 2:15 p.m., while they will be pair again on Friday and tee off No. 1 at 9 a.m.
