Head coach Brant Tolsma recapped his teams' successful 2009-10 seasons and began looking ahead to 2010-11.
After guiding the Liberty men's and women's track & field teams to one of the best years in program history, head coach Brant Tolsma recapped his squads' accomplishments with Nick Pierce.
Tolsma described the first "Double Triple" in Big South Conference history, which saw Liberty win conference titles in men's cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field, as well as women's cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field.
On an individual level, nine-time All-American Sam Chelanga enjoyed another stellar season. He won the first NCAA Division I men's track & field national title in program history, finishing first in the 10K at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships. He also broke his own NCAA 10K record with his 27:08.39 clocking at Stanford on May 1.
With Chelanga and many other talented performers set to return in 2010-11, Tolsma closed the interview by expressing his optimism for the coming season. The Flames tied for 13th place as a team at this year's NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and Tolsma hopes Liberty can climb even higher on the national ladder next year.
