Eleven of Liberty's 16 NCAA Preliminary Round qualifiers will be in action between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. this evening. The quartet of Anthony Bryant, Aaron Johnson, Clarence Powell and Oronde Vassell will compete in the men's long jump, beginning at 5 p.m.
However, much of my attention this evening will be focused on the track, where seven Liberty athletes will combine to run 86.5 laps. The night will culminate with the men's and women's 10K races, which will see Sam Chelanga, Josh Edmonds and Ashley Osborne battle massive 48-runner fields and the warm, sticky weather conditions as they attempt to punch tickets to Eugene, Oregon.
Speaking of Eugene, the top 12 finishers in each event at the NCAA Preliminary Round meet this weekend will head there June 9-12, for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
For the second straight meet, I will be utilizing the CoveritLive blog interface. Please feel free to send along any comments and questions throughout the weekend, and I'll do my best to address them in a timely manner. Go Flames! 2010 NCAA Preliminary Round Day 1 Blog
