Liberty redshirt senior Jaime Watson has been tabbed the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Women's Track & Field Athlete of the Week for the sixth time this year, after a busy and successful weekend at the 116th Penn Relays. Watson opened her weekend by clocking a 2:07.94 on the 800-meter leg of the distance medley relay, on April 22. She posted the fastest split in the Lady Flames' section and the third-fastest overall out of 30 participating teams. Watson's effort helped Liberty notch the second-fastest distance medley relay time in program history, 11:32.55, and finish 16th overall. The next day, Watson anchored the Lady Flames' 4 x 200 relay quartet to the seventh-fastest time in program history, 1:39.86. Liberty ended up 31st out of 62 teams in the prelims. Watson then led off for the second Liberty 4 x 800 squad ever to break 9:00, on April 24. Her 2:09.53 split was the fourth-fastest opening leg among the 39 competing teams. The Lady Flames' final time of 8:59.79 ranked 16th overall at the prestigious meet. Watson's five previous Big South weekly honors this year have come on Jan. 27, Feb. 3, Feb. 17, March 10 and April 14. Watson is one of seven Liberty mid-distance and distance runners who will compete in the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational, Saturday evening in Stanford, Calif. She will race in the top section of the women's 800, which is set to begin at 8:02 p.m. Eastern.
