As the 2010 regular season winds down, the Liberty Lady Flames have one more non-conference doubleheader scheduled, tomorrow evening, against the Hokies of Virginia Tech. Game 1 of the twinbill, to be played in Blacksburg, Va., is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.

Liberty, currently 33-12 overall and 9-3 in Big South play, is enjoying its seventh season of 30-plus wins since the program entered Division I competition in 1994. The most wins recorded by a Liberty squad was 41, achieved in 1999 and 2006.

The 2010 Lady Flames have already gone down in the history books for the longest winning streak in program history at 12 games, marked by 12 consecutive victories from April 10 – 21.

Cassie Hendrix leads the Lady Flames with a .372 batting average, while Kelly Strickland, who is on an eight-game hitting streak, is batting .338 with 15 home runs and 52 RBIs, leading the Big South in the last two categories.

Pitcher Tiffani Smith is 18-4 on the year, and leads the Big South in strikeouts (183) and opposing batting average (.185).

The Hokies, 20-31 overall and 6-12 in ACC play, are coming off of a 4-0 victory over North Carolina at home on Sunday. Virginia Tech dropped a doubleheader to the Tarheels, 8-0 and 1-0, on Saturday.

Whitney Davis leads the team, batting .297 on the year, while Richelle McGarva has driven in 27 runs and Misty Hall has recorded eight homers.

Kenzie Roark leads the pitching staff, going 7-18 in the circle with a 3.06 ERA and 107 strikeouts in 141 2/3 innings of work.

The Hokies have faced Big South opponents on three occasions this season, and did not pick up a win in any of those contests. They fell to Winthrop, 2-0, on Feb. 20, lost to Charleston Southern, 6-0, on March 14 and dropped a 9-3 decision to Radford on April 14.

Liberty is 11-23 all-time against Virginia Tech, and the Hokies swept last year's doubleheader, 10-3 and 4-3, on April 16 in Lynchburg.

The last time the Lady Flames defeated the Hokies was on May 4, 2006, when Liberty swept No. 24 Virginia Tech, 6-5 and 3-0, in Blacksburg, Va.
