Dale Layer recently signed Chris Johnson to a National Letter of Intent.

Liberty head men's basketball coach Dale Layer announced that Chris Johnson has signed a national letter of intent to attend Liberty University for the 2010-11 academic year.

Johnson, a 6-5 guard from North Preston, Nova Scotia, is a junior college transfer, who suited up for Kilgore College (Kilgore, Texas) this past season.

"Chris is a valuable addition to our program," said Layer. "He is a very talented scorer who can score in a variety of ways. He has developed at Kilgore College under Coach Brian Hoberecht and will make an immediate impact on the offensive end."

Despite a left foot injury that forced him to miss two-thirds of the 2009-10 season, Johnson played in 11 games for the Rangers, averaging 18.9 points and 3.0 rebounds per game, while shooting 52 percent (74-of-143) from the floor. Prior to his time at Kilgore, Johnson was a member of the 2007 Canadian Junior National team.

"Chris is a versatile wing who is a very capable scorer and shooter," said Hoberecht. "Chris indicated that he was impressed with his future teammates and believes the academics and facilities were first class."

Johnson chose Liberty over Murray State, St. Bonaventure and UC Riverside.
