Liberty posted five goals during a rainy Wednesday afternoon at DeGol field, but it was not enough to stop the Saint Francis (Pa.) Red Flash from taking the contest, 16-5.

Liberty falls to 1-6 on the season, while Saint Francis continues its best campaign in program history, improving to 6-3 on the year.

Saint Francis got on the board first when Danielle Conwell capitalized on a free position shot to give the Red Flash an early 1-0 lead at 27:46. Conwell resurfaced 1:24 later, netting her second-straight goal to make it 2-0, Red Flash.

Liberty closed the gap at 24:03 when Anna Starling (Jr., North Richland, Texas) created her own shot and zipped it past Red Flash goalie Kimberly Peterson to make it a one-point game, 2-1.

The Red Flash responded, going on a 3-0 run over the ensuing 3:55 to take a 5-1 advantage at 20:07. Three Saint Francis players contributed to the scoring run – Kate Simmons, Conwell and Chelsea Kent.

The Lady Flames halted the home team's burst 20 seconds later, as Kristin Crowley (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) sprinted downfield and cemented a shot to cut it to three, 5-2.

Unfazed by the goal, the Red Flash went on another tear, this time posting four unanswered goals over the next seven minutes to stretch the margin to 9-2. Liberty's Chloe McIntosh (So., Dallas Texas) ended Saint Francis' streak at 11:55, finding the net for the third time this season to make it 9-3.

The Lady Flames were unable to close the gap any further in the first period, as the Red Flash tacked on five more goals down the stretch to hold a 14-3 lead at halftime.

Conwell paced the Red Flash with five goals in the first half, followed by Kent with a hat trick. Kent also led Saint Francis at the midway point in ground balls with four. Simmons finished the period with a combined six points, on a pair of goals and two helpers.

Lady Flames goalie Rebekah Luetters concluded the opening stanza with four saves and a game-leading five ground balls.

Both teams went scoreless for the opening 10 minutes of the second period. Liberty lit up the scoreboard first, when McIntosh raced around the Red Flash defense, sinking the shot to make it 14-4 at 19:55.

McIntosh resurfaced four minutes later, netting another goal following a pass from Crowley to halt the running clock and cut it to 14-5. Saint Francis added a pair of goals down the stretch for the final score of 16-5.

Conwell was the game's leading scorer with six goals, while teammates Kent and Simmons both finished with a hat trick.

McIntosh led the Lady Flames in scoring for the second time in three games with a trio of markers. Luetters was the game's leader in ground balls with six. The contest marked the third-straight game the goalie has recorded six or more ground balls.

Liberty returns to Lynchburg on Friday to host Central Connecticut State for its final home game of the 2010 season. The opening draw at Osborne Stadium is slated for 3 p.m.
