Liberty Heads to NC A&T for Single Game

The Lady Flames softball team will continue its 2010 season this weekend, traveling to Greensboro, N.C., for a single game against N.C. A&T. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.

The meeting will mark the 31st meeting between the Lady Flames and the Aggies, with Liberty holding a 27-3 record. The last time the two teams met was on April 1, 2006, when Liberty swept a doubleheader at home, 5-2 and 15-1.

The Lady Flames, 12-8 on the year, are coming off two losses to conference rival Radford, Thursday afternoon, to open 2010 Big South play.

Liberty's bats have stayed hot for most of this season, with four batters batting .300 or better.

Sophomore Kelly Strickland leads the team with a .382 average and 22 RBIs, and has hit safely in 13 of the last 15 games. She also leads the team and the Big South Conference with seven home runs on the year.

Senior J'nae Jefferson has also found consistency at the plate, recording hits in seven of the last eight contests.

As a team, Liberty has pounded out six or more hits in the last four games, tying a season-high 11 against Radford on Thursday.

Junior Tiffani Smith is 6-3 in the circle for the Lady Flames, and ranks second in the Big South with 68 strikeouts in 53 innings of work.

The Aggies are 8-5 this year, with a 6-3 record at home. The team is led by Bianca Alsobrook, who is batting .459 with 11 RBIs, while Yahamma While is batting .429 with nine RBIs.

Pitcher Jennifer Luper, 4-3 on the season, posts a 1.40 ERA with 35 strikeouts in 50 innings thrown.

The last time the Lady Flames and the Aggies met in Greensboro was on April 30, 2001. The squads split a doubleheader that day, with A&T taking the first game, 4-2, before the Lady Flames claimed Game 2 by a score of 3-1.
