Liberty to Conclude Trip with DH against ETSU

The Lady Flames will conclude their 2010 spring break trip with a doubleheader against East Tennessee State, Tuesday afternoon, in Johnson City, Tenn. First pitch of Game 1 is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Liberty, 10-6 overall this year, is 7-4 for this extended road trip, which has included stops in Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee. The Lady Flames opened the trip with a fourth-place finish out of 22 teams at the Buzz Classic in Woodstock, Ga., before dropping a 10-7 decision to No. 10 Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala. After a single-game victory over Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, Tenn., Liberty went 2-2 in the Tennessee Invitational in Knoxville, Tenn.

This season marks the third campaign under Coach Paul Wetmore that the Lady Flames have won 10 of the first 16 games of the season. The last time the Lady Flames enjoyed a 10-win start was in 2006. The 1996 squad accomplished the same feat.

Kelly Strickland leads the Lady Flames, batting .383 with six home runs and 16 RBIs, and one homer came against the nationally-ranked Crimson Tide on Tuesday afternoon. Senior J'nae Jefferson is currently on a six-game hitting streak and is batting .474 during the six-game span.

Freshman pitcher Katie Warrington is 4-1 on the year, and has thrown 42 innings, leading the team in the circle. Junior Tiffani Smith leads the pitching staff with 52 strikeouts in 39.1 innings of work.

East Tennessee State is 9-13 overall this year, and is on a two-game losing streak after a spring break trip to tournaments in California. The Buccaneers' last win came in a 5-4 decision over Georgetown on March 12 in Fresno, Calif. East Tennessee State has also posted wins over UC Riverside and Furman on the season.

The Buccaneers are led by Cheniece Cason, who is batting .333 with a .478 slugging percentage, and Trisha Massenzo, who leads the squad with 14 RBIs. Pitcher Jessica Duncan posts a 2.26 ERA with 33 strikeouts in 65 complete innings thrown.

Tuesday's doubleheader, which is East Tennessee State's 2010 home opener, marks the first meeting between the Lady Flames and the Buccaneers.
