Liberty's newest group of Lady Flames is heading to the Sunshine State this weekend, for a five-day road trip that includes a pair of matchups. The Liberty women's lacrosse team (1-1) is slated to take on Long Island (0-4) in its first contest in Jacksonville, Fla., at Veterans Park on Sunday. The opening draw is set for 6 p.m.

Liberty is coming off its first win in the program's brief existence, edging out fellow National Lacrosse Conference (NLC) competitor Howard, 17-16, in Washington, D.C., last Saturday. The win in the nation's capital marked head coach Regan Denham's first coaching victory in NCAA Division I lacrosse.

Trailing Howard by as much as seven goals in the first half, the Lady Flames rallied in the second, netting three unanswered markers in the final 2:47 of regulation to send the contest into overtime, knotted at 15. The Lady went on to capture their inaugural win, outscoring the Bison, 2-1, in the extra period for a final score of 17-16.

Attackers Kristin Crowley and Lauren See each posted five goals in the Liberty victory. Crowley has been paving the way for the Lady Flames offense with seven goals and two assists, followed by See with six goals. On the defensive end, midfielder Hillary Baker is the team's leader in ground balls with four on the season, while fellow midfielder Anna Starling is forcing the most miscues with a quartet of caused turnovers.

Liberty enters Sunday's game with a shooting percentage of .513 (20-of-39) and a shot on goal percentage of .744 (29-of-39). The Lady Flames hold a clear percentage of .545, reaching the offensive third of the field six times in 11 attempts. Liberty's opponents have only successfully cleared the ball four times out of 10 attempts (.400).

Long Island will take the field at Veterans Park looking for its first win of the season after dropping contests to St. Mary's (13-15), Drexel (4-18), Villanova (8-21) and Iona (7-18). Liberty is slated to meet two of Long Island's previous opponents this season later this month. The Lady Flames will take on St. Francis on March 23 in the second of two contests in Loretto, Pa. On March 28, Liberty heads to New Rochelle, N.Y. for a meeting with Iona.

In the Blackbirds most recent matchup against Iona on Tuesday, Long Island's Caitlin Farrell led the team with a pair of goals. However, the Long Island defense was unable to halt Iona's offensive attack, as the Gaels finished with four players scoring three or more goals.

Through its first four contests, Long Island is averaging eight goals per game, with Annie Kalata leading the way in total goals with nine. The Blackbirds currently own a shot percentage of .344 (32-of-93) and a shot on goal percentage of .731 (68-of-93).
