My dad has always told me that we are holistic beings, and that in order to be successful in any meaningful way, or in any one discipline, it's necessary to give all our effort to each aspect of our lives. In other words: I can't really be the best soccer player I can be unless I am conscientious about my walk with God. Or I can't be the very best student I am capable of being unless I give everything on the field, and in the gym, as an athlete and vice-versa. Maybe I've made that seem complicated, but it really is a simple concept that has stuck with me.
